AMG EXPERT REVIEW: Like other albums on the Australian label Music Mosaic, this collection is a fusion of world and dance music. Each track is by a different artist and the musical flavors range from African to Latin to American/European dance and trance.
The best selections are those that make use of ethnic music while maintaining a strong dance beat. "Watsi Watsi" by Don Peyote surrounds an African chant with sampled bird calls, laughter and shouts that make it seem as if an urban street atmosphere had been plunked down in the midst of the jungle. Gypsy Moon's "Luna Piena" is a straightforward Latin song with guitar accents, regrettably the shortest song on the album. "Timbusa" combines Afro-Cuban rhythms, characteristic horns and keyboard, with a somewhat repetitious underbeat. It's entertaining but the "vocals" promised on the liner notes seem to be missing.
Other tracks are typical dance club fare, competent but not outstanding except for the smooth vocal by Racheal Brown on "The Pleasure Zone." "Dance Planet" is recommended for dance parties but overall it's not as musically impressive as other recent Music Mosaic releases such as "Lotus Groove." - Lynne Bronsteinfor the direct link: Click Here
