TRIBAL GROOVE- VARIOUS
Album Review by MARK BAYROSS

© 2002 PHASE9 ENTERTAINMENT

From Music Mosaic comes TRIBAL GROOVE, a compilation of artists from around the globe that showcases the Australian world music label and its sister labels Oreade Music, Tangram, New World Music and Piranha.

The artists represented here come from Africa, The Middle East, Native America, Australia, Mongolia and Tibet - a truly international mix - and, for the most part, blend percussive grooves and indigenous harmonies with trancey soundscapes.

Titles like CALL OF THE TRIBES (by Karunesh), SPICE SOUK (by James Asher) and EN AFRIQUE (by the capitali$ts) kinda speak for themselves, but like the surprisingly futuristic-sounding MONGOLIA (by Limborg and Barki), much of this compilation is globe-hopping tribal music given a modern ambient makeover.

Still, it makes for a captivating listen.
